Colloquium for Graduate Students
NEICN is establishing a colloquium for graduate students involved in all areas of Scottish and Irish studies to be held on the evening of Saturday the 13th of November from 18:30 to 19:30 approx.
This colloquium aims to further this interest by enabling young scholars to discuss their research and is particularly keen to showcase innovative, modern and unexplored approaches to Scottish and Irish studies from traditionally neglected angles, places and spaces.
Examining different nations and locations through a range of scholarly perspectives, this colloquium aims to provide an informal but informed backdrop for students to present papers and disseminate research through a variety of channels. We are also eager to foster links and involvement with existing Scottish and Irish studies institutions to further postgraduate support.
During the session postgraduate studies will give short presentations of their PhD research areas and plans will be made towards establishing a travelling seminar series.
Our future plans include:
- An annual colloquium to be held at the University of Sunderland’s NEICN conference.
- A travelling Scottish and Irish studies seminar group to enable graduate students to present academic papers amidst peers. Guest speakers will also be arranged. The first meeting will take place on the 25th of January 2011 (Burns Nicht).
- A website with an online forum and news facility.
- An online, postgraduate peer-reviewed journal.
If you would like to take part in the colloquium to be held at the 2010 NEICN conference please prepare either a poster presentation detailing the Scottish and/or Irish links in your research which can be e-mailed in PowerPoint form for printing to firstname.lastname@example.org OR a five minute verbal presentation of your research detailing the Scottish and/or Irish interest.
